Our Children; Our Leaders

A part of responsible parenting means guiding our children as they grow and teach them how to become responsible adults. All too often, however, this part of parenting is overwhelmed by working two jobs: putting food on the table and making sure the kids brush their teeth.

That little body sitting in front of the television, perhaps watching a show or playing a video game, could be the next Kazakhstan President or President of the United States. The onus is on the parents to teach their children compassion, forgiveness, patience and understanding.

There is no way that the people of this world are going to escape their bigotry, intolerance and struggle for power unless they are replaced by a generation of adults who seek peace and understanding.

Children learn from the behavior of their parents. Unless you show them how to be compassionate and caring, they will never learn. Unless you discuss how being hurtful can pain another individual, they will never tolerate others. Until you show them that you love your neighbor, no matter their religion or color of skin, then our children will never learn to be accepting of others. Until they learn to share as a child, how will they learn to share power as a ruler?

Finding the time to teach our children these important life lessons can be difficult, but they should not be overlooked. Take the time to teach your children how to be accepting of others and how to be compassionate. Perhaps then, they’ll live in a more peaceful and loving world than our own.
