You may feel like you have lost control of yourself or hit “rock bottom.” It can be an incredibly overwhelming time in your life. The solution may be to enter a drug treatment center.

Often times, an addiction starts out with a bit of experimentation. You may have been curious about drugs and alcohol, or you may have been having a rough time in your life and used it as an escape. Whatever the case, you have now found that you can not function without drugs and are trying to decide if you need help.

Drugs can greatly change a person; you may have found yourself doing things completely out of character. This deceit may have broken the trust your family had in you and you may feel alone, like you have been abandoned.

One thing you need to understand is that it was the addiction that took hold of you, and you can have a new beginning with your family and friends. It will take time, and most likely counseling as a family and individually to repair the damage to your relationships. However, it can be done. The first step is to acknowledge that you have a problem and seek help. Find a drug treatment program that will cater to your needs and help you through the detoxification process.

You may have found that other drug users have become your new “family” but if they do not get sober too, it is best to move on without them. You must create a safe, drug free environment for yourself, and staying in contact with addicts can cause you to relapse. What you will need is an environment filled with people who believe you can become sober and are willing to stand by you through this process. Whoever is there for you, you can create a new, healthy life for yourself and mend broken relationships.
