- Image via Wikipedia
Politics is a growing sector that more and more people are beginning to enter for a career. Whether you are looking to change things on a local level or maybe one day get into the White House, making a career in politics is a surefire way to make sure you make a difference in people’s lives. There are a few steps you need to take to become a successful politician.
The first place you need to start is your education. If you are in high school you should take a wide range of subjects that will give you a good basis of knowledge for future endeavors, such as Math, History and English. You will also need to become involved with a variety of extra curricular activities such as sporting events or a debate club. The latter will be especially useful in teaching you how to make your point and disagree with somebody’s while remaining courteous and polite.
After this, you will need to complete a degree in politics. There are many schools across the country that teach politics but if you are stuck and can’t find any that you like, educationforadults.com offers a service that allows you to scan schools and colleges for courses at the touch of a few buttons.
You will also need to work on your networking skills as you will be using these consistently when you are a politician. Go to any events that you are invited to and get talking to the organizers and other people there. This is a great opportunity to improve your people skills.
You may also want to work with an existing politician while you are a student to get advice and learn the ropes. This will give you a good grounding of the legislative procedures and legal processes that you will be encountering when you are a politician.

History of World Government

- Image via Wikipedia
The concept of a World Government is the idea that there could possible be a single common political group governing the entire human race. There have been many books and articles written on this subject, many with theories and plans set forth on how to organize and maintain a world government. In fact, one such book was found in the early 1300s proposing this ideal.
Throughout history there have been several attempts to organize some form of world government, although all attempts seem to fail within a short period of time. In the early 1800s International Peace Congresses (international meetings) were held throughout Europe. This attempt at establishing international relationships ended after only approximately 10 years due to an outbreak in wars in Europe and North America.
In the early 1900s another attempt was made when the League of Nations was established, although this was very short-lived and lasted less than a year. The goal of the League of Nations was to “uphold The Right of Man,†in an attempt to advocate for the rights of all men and women no matter race, color, nationality, etc., and further were attempting to settle disputes and prevent war through negotiations and diplomacy to improve the standards of life globally. The League did not have the resources available to continue their goals and were unable to effectively implement their strategies.
The Nazi party in Germany in the early 1900s had envisioned a world government ruled by the German “Third Reich†under the rule of Adolf Hitler and his political party. Germany had already removed themselves from the League of Nations and had determined that they would not join any such international organization again. It has been stated that Adolf Hitler’s belief was that world peace could only be achieved “when one power, the racially best one, has attained uncontested supremacy.

Continued Efforts At Establishing A World Government

- Image via Wikipedia
Since Adolf Hitler’s failed attempts at establishing a “world government†through world domination in the early 1900s there have continued to be other attempts at establishing some form of world government in an attempt towards a more unified world, and therefore the possibility of eventually establishing world peace.
The Atlantic Charter was an agreement between Britain and the United States of America. It was initially formed to define things after World War II. This agreement ended up shaping many international agreements since that time.
Due to the impact of World War II and many of the acts against humanity as well as the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction during that war, people around the world were shocked and feared for the future of our world. There was obviously a need for more unification among the governments of the world. Therefore, in 1945 the United Nations (UN) was organized. Many felt, though, that the UN was simply a discussion forum among supreme governments and there was still a need for an efficient federal world government.
During the years between the end of World War II and 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War, there was a big push for the world federalist movement. Many books were written on the subject and organizations were formed. In 1947 the United World Federalists organization was formed. Through the years the official name of this organization changed, but their goals continued to be the same. By 1949 their membership had grown to 47,000 members. Throughout other countries around the world there were similar organizations being formed.
There continues to be attempts at establishing a true world government, and although many of these organizations have made great strides towards cooperation between nations, we are still far from having a working world government. With continued efforts, we may some day see a more workable solution which may take us one step closer to world peace.

Being Tolerant of Homosexuality

If there is a topic that might be more polarizing than any other in the world; it’s the topic of homosexuality throughout the nations. There are an increasing number of outed gay people in society and there are people who are very understanding and tolerant of these lifestyles that are different from their own. Meanwhile, there are some out there who are not quite as understanding. They believe that being gay is a disease or that it’s simply a lifestyle that is a choice and meant to be an affront to the mainstream way of life. It’s important that those who find themselves intolerant of homosexuals understand some of the central issues of gay rights and the overall treatment of gay people.
In life, people have and make choices. It’s a decision to choose one of the great Denver apartments that are available, or to pick what kind of car to drive. Many Denver apartments welcome gay and lesbian tenants because they always leave their Denver apartments so clean and well kept. Who wouldn’t want these wonderful people choosing to live an alternative lifestyle in Denver apartments?
However, who someone will love or who they won’t love are not part of the choices people often make. Being gay might not be something that is clear cut for many from an early age, but to say that they would choose a lifestyle that is full of so much adversity and met with such ridicule might be shortsighted by those that believe it. Being tolerant of a homosexual isn’t about fully supporting the lifestyle and immersing oneself in the culture too. Everyone must make the decision though to treat a differing opinion with basic love and respect. Understand that because someone does something different doesn’t make it a part of another person’s life. It’s about seeing the differences between the two sides and agreeing that hating each other for it would be wrong and wouldn’t help anything in the long run. Being gay isn’t a choice, but hating someone for being gay is.

History of Immigration To America
Throughout history people have immigrated to The Americas for various reasons. After Christopher Columbus first discovered the New World, people began immigrating to the Americas to escape religious oppression and be awarded greater freedoms or just to start a new life. Since that time the reasons for immigration has changed, although some stay the same.
For the first 150 years or so some of those reasons remained the same, although some people began immigrating to America to reunite with loved ones, were brought to the Americas as slaves against their will, others were sent to the Americas as an exile from their countries for “crimes†committed against the throne, some were political refugees who feared for their lives, while other’s reasons remained a desire for a better life.
During the 1800s the reasons behind immigration to the Americas became more about financial gain. Land in the Americas was abundant and was known to be fairly inexpensive. There was plenty of work available where in some other countries work was difficult to find.
In the late 1800s and into the 1900s more differing nationalities began immigrating to the Americas for a variety of reasons. Jews started immigrating to the Americas to be allowed more religious freedom, Russians came to America to escape harassment, Asians and Italians were looking for work. In many countries America was becoming known as the “Land of Opportunity.†It was known that America had plenty of work available and in America you were allowed religious freedom.
Since the early 1900s immigration to America, more specifically the United States, has continued more widely now because there is less chance of harassment, deportation, or prosecution while there are greater chances for financial independence in the United States than in other countries. A lot of immigrants who continue to come to America presently are still escaping oppression and may be fleeing their countries for fear of their lives.

Black Friday and Your Mental Health – Maintaining Shades of Gray

- Image by marc.benton via Flickr
There are some in my family who have made Black Friday an annual ritual. They plan for it. They dress for it. They print maps. They split up, if necessary, but being the first gal to burst through the doors is a big deal. They’re like pioneer women, bundled up with the cold wind in their faces. One of my nieces even wears special shoes with treads so she doesn’t slip on the snow and lose her footing–and maybe a great deal on a big TV.
Personally, I’d rather sleep. I don’t care how much money I can save on a toaster, I’m not going to risk my dignity to stand at the doors in the freezing cold with a bunch of hysterical moms with madness in their eyes. Those women are scary. Besides, the day after Thanksgiving is usually a business travel day for me. Airports don’t participate in Black Friday.
While Black Friday isn’t my thing, I decided to give Cyber Monday a whirl. After technical snags and driver updates, I was able to preview the sales online, and I must admit, there were a lot of deals. At least I could shop from the comfort of my pajamas and avoid the mobs at the big box stores.
There was a TV that caught my interest. The brand was obscure, but the price was right. I thought I might need to get up early Monday to get in on the action and snag my TV.
Well, my alarm didn’t go off. By the time I awoke, people had been pointing and clicking for hours. I poured hot coffee and fired up the PC anyway. The TV I had wanted was gone–sold out. Now, not only is Black Friday on my “banned” list, so is Cyber Monday!

Cobdenism And World Peace
Can Cobdenism bring about world peace? Cobdenism, named for British economist and statesman, Richard Cobden, is based on a theory that through international free trade and free markets we can attain world peace. The thought is that by removing tariffs and initializing international free trade that wars would become impossible. The theory behind this is that with a free trade system it would prevent any nation from becoming completely self-sufficient, which is a requirement for any long war.
A system of free trade is when traders are allowed to act or perform transactions without the interference of government. Under a free trade policy prices are completely determined by true supply and demand. Free trade features would include a trade of goods without taxes, tariffs, or other trade barriers; trade of services without taxes or other trade barriers; free access to markets; free access to market information; the absence of any interference by governments or firms to distort markets; free movement of labor between and within countries; and free movement of capital between and within countries.
Critics of Cobdenism argue that free trade will not prevent countries from creating some sort of emergency plan to become self-sufficient in the event of a war or that they will just obtain their needs from another country. There are others who argue that free trade will not, however, make wars impossible, but in fact will actually create wars.
Nowadays this theory is generally referred to as the laissez-faire economic theory. This term was first introduced during a meeting of French businessmen in 1680 during which the Cobdenism theory of free trade and world peace was discussed. During this meeting one of the businessmen coined the phrase “Laissez-nous faire†which in French translates as “Leave us be”, lit. “Let us do”. Supporters have now come to refer to the Cobdenism economic theory as the laissez-faire economic theory.

Tolerating Others Doesn’t Have to Mean Staying With Them

- Image by Getty Images via @daylife
Tolerance is very important. It can help to promote peace throughout the world, and it can allow people who didn’t get along in the past to learn from one another instead of just ignoring what people have to say because they don’t agree. Tolerance doesn’t mean you have to agree with others, or that you have to change your viewpoint and beliefs to match what another person considers to be true. It means, in short, that people should just all try to get along. There’s no reason not to, unless another person is actively trying to harm you, personally. If that’s not the case, why not listen to what that person has to say, and then make your own judgment about right and wrong?
Whether you’re practicing tolerance on a global scale or a much more personal one, there may come a time when you see that it’s necessary to sever ties with someone else. If that someone is a spouse, www.totaldivorce.com can help you get through a difficult time with decency, dignity, and compassion for others. Just because a relationship is ending, that doesn’t mean there has to be a lot of ugliness and other problems involved. There can be peace as you move through the legal system.
Retaining peace in your heart and mind can seem difficult when there is so much going on in your life and in the world, but the only way peace will come to the world is if everyone works toward it. Why not make that your focus? You can’t always please everyone, but you can do the kinds of things that matter to you and that don’t harm others. The things that bring you joy can often also bring you peace, and you can share that peace with the world around you. It’s contagious.

The Democractic Peace Theory
The democratic peace theory holds to the theory that democracies rarely if ever go to war against each other. Furthermore, it is theorized that more and more nations are becoming democratic nations and that in essence there can be world peace based on this alone.
Even if this theory is accepted, there are critics that feel that simply because democracies do not wage war against each other and even if the world became completely governed by democracies, this would not necessarily ensure world peace. Those same critics have stated that this theory would more accurately be labeled as the “democracies don’t fight each other†hypothesis.
There have been many explanations given as to why democracies do not fight each other. Some feel it is simply by chance, others have stated that it is most likely because democratic leaders have to answer to the people when wars are waged, and prefer to find other means to resolve differences. Democracies, however, tend to view non-democracies as threats and enemies and will tend to wage war with them over issues that would have been resolved peaceably between democracies. Another theory is that democracies tend to be wealthier than other countries, and therefore stand to lose more in a war, and in turn they avoid going to war.
There has been some research into this theory and the claims presented. There is much controversy over the findings as to what exactly constitutes a “democracy†or what determines a “war,†etc. Although, one problem with the research on this subject is that democracies have actually been fewer over the past two centuries therefore affording less opportunities for democracies to fight each other.
There are some that feel that the democratic peace theory will be used as justification for democracies to wage war against non-democracies in an attempt at bringing about world peace through democratic dominance.

Where Have All the Hairdos Gone?
- Image via Wikipedia
There was time when hair bleach makers had a field day just because Marilyn Monroe sported a bleach-blonde look. All of a sudden, every woman in the United States wanted to have a hair do just like Marilyn. The short curly ‘Poodle Cut’ became a rave when Gina Lollobrigida carried it off. People went crazy after Farrah Fawcett’s feathered hairstyle. Women were often seen imitating the hairstyles of the most popular actresses of their era. Audrey Hepburn, Barbra Streisand, Lauren Bacall and Mia Farrow are just a few names that set trends overnight and had women all over the United States sporting the their hairdos.
Men were not to be left behind either. Elvis’ huge popularity meant men would mirror his oiled coif and prominent side burns. John Travolta in Grease and Saturday Night Fever sent feminine hearts racing and so college boys were off throwing on cans of grease to make their hair slick. Speaking of slick: remember all those slick, combed back flat hair dos post the Godfather Trilogy? Even the Beatles with their pixie hairstyle set off a new trend. Men and women, both were avid followers of fashion and by followers we don’t just mean reading about it, but adopting the styles themselves.
There seems to be a drought in this trend in recent times however. The last time a hairdo became anywhere close to popular was ‘The Rachel’ which was Jennifer Aniston’s look in Friends. Maybe people expect celebrity hairdos to be expensive. Although getting a celebrity look can be high maintenance, it does not exactly lead to bankruptcy or having to engage a debt consolidation service! Besides, once you get the actual cut done by a professional it can generally be maintained at home. With a little bit of training, people can easily pull off celebrity hairdos and look as amazing as their idols.
